Torah Academy Seniors Celebrate Beautiful Graduation

June 15 Event Features Inspiring Words and Video
This past Sunday, Torah Academy seniors graduated at the Lower Merion Synagogue social hall.  The evening began with a powerful rendition of the national anthem and HaTikvah led by Mr. Russell Gold.  Principal Rabbi Baruch Lichtenstein welcomed everyone to the graduation and presented Mr. Jonathan Zimbalist, outgoing TA Board president, with a gift and a thank you for his outstanding work and tireless advocacy on behalf of Jewish education in the Philadelphia area.  Key speakers at the graduation included Rabbi Abraham Levene , Rabbi Emiretus of Lower Merion Synagogue and whose oldest granddaughter, Alexandra, was graduating, Rabbi Avraham Shmidman, Rabbi of LMS, and Mrs. Dee Tanner, vice president and chair of the TAGHS Education Committee.

Of course, the valedictorian, Rose Snyder, and salutatorian, Leah Gesserman, spoke as well.  Rose will be attending Shaalavim for Women next year in Israel and, following that, Barnard College in New York.  She is planning a career in medicine or in a related area. National Merit Scholar Leah Gesserman will be attending Bais Yaakov Yerushalayim (BJJ) next year in Israel and, following that, will begin undergraduate studies with an eye to pursuing a PhD in psychology at the university of her choice.

Students presented gifts to the school and to the PTO.  The highlight of the evening was a beautiful video tribute to the graduates, featuring each girl discussing her senior leadership position and work. The graduation culminated with a slide show of a photo montage of each graduate's pictures from birth through 12th grade.  The video was the LEEP project of graduate Chana Lauterbach who worked closely with Mrs. Karin Kolosky to create this wonderful multimedia presentation.

Rabbi Lichtenstein spoke about each graduate and presented her with a well-deserved award.  The evening ended with a delicious buffet.  Special thanks to Mrs. Nomi Levene for coordinating the buffet, high school junior parents, especially Dr. Goldfein and Mrs. Lindell, for setting up the food and graduation, and Mr. Avi Zohar for his incredible support.
